Noah: Hello! I’m Noah and this is Like You: Mindfulness for Kids. I’m very glad you’re here. On this episode we’ll imagine a windy day as we go fly a kite. So listeners of all ages, find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. As I ask questions and invite you to say affirmations, you’re welcome to speak out loud, or as always, you can just think your responses quietly in your mind.

Let’s begin with a breathing exercise. This is one of my favorite breathing exercise that I use all the time. We’re going to imagine breathing like the wind as we blow clouds away to reveal a clear blue sky.

Start by imagining a sky full of gloomy grey rain clouds. If you want, you could imagine that those clouds are something that’s bothered or frustrated you recently.

Maybe you had an argument with a friend, maybe you lost a card game, or maybe you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. If there’s something that bothered you recently you can imagine blowing that feeling away as we blow away the rain clouds.

Now take a deep breath in 1-2-3, and blow hard, like the wind. [wind]

Take another deep breath in 1-2-3, and blow away clouds, like the wind. [wind]

Good work, the rain clouds are starting to scatter. You can see bits of blue sky peeking through, but there’s still more work to blow these clouds away. Let’s take a few more deep breaths. This time, when you breathe out, move your head side to side and imagine blowing clouds in every direction.

Take a deep breath in 1-2-3, and blow away the clouds side to side. [wind]

Take another deep breath in 1-2-3, and blow like the wind. [wind]. The clouds are clearing! One more time.

Deep breath in 1-2-3, and blow long and hard like the wind. [wind].

Way to go! All the clouds have gone away, leaving a bright blue sky. Imagine the warm sun shining down on your shoulders, as you relax. Now on the count of three let’s all say I like me. 1-2-3. I like me.

I like you too. You are a smart and capable problem solver.

Now, as long as we’ve been blowing all this wind around, why don’t we do something fun with it? Let’s imagine flying a kite.

Pick your favorite color for the kite to be. What color did you pick?

Now imagine standing in a grassy field, full of wildflowers that sway in the wind. You hold your kite in one hand, and you hold a spool of string in the other. You get a running start. You feel the wind whipping through your hair. You can feel the wind pulling at the kite, and you release it, launching the kite into the air.

You hold onto the string, slowly unwinding the string to let the kite float higher.

Now imagine yourself flying like the kite. You are light as a feather as you float on the breeze, swaying back and forth, back and forth. Looking all around, you see a beautiful view. You can see for miles. You see trees below you swaying with the wind. Off in the distance you can see your house, with your family waving to you. On all sides you’re surrounded by blue skies. The sun shines down on you, making you feel warm. Relax and enjoy a peaceful moment, floating like a kite high in the sky.

While you continue flying like a kite, let’s say some affirmations. We’ll imagine that each affirmations helps your kite fly a little higher. Remember, affirmations are words you can say about yourself to remind yourself how wonderful you are. I’ll say each affirmation twice. So you can listen the first time, then say it together with me the second time. As you repeat each affirmation, imagine your kite floating up a little higher. Here we go.

I love myself.

I am proud of who I am.

I blow away all my worries.

I am an amazing person.

I embrace the greatness within me.

I’m glad that I am me.

I believe my dreams can come true.

I am full of wow.

Now imagine your kite sailing high in the sky. Take a few slow breaths and relax as you imagine pulling on the kite string and letting your kite float down, down, down to the ground. If any of those affirmations stood out to you, feel free to write them down, or just store them safely in your mind to say when you need it. If you have an affirmation that is special to you, I would love to hear it! If you’d like to send a recording of your favorite affirmation to play on the show, have a grownup check our website or episode notes for more information.

I’d like to end with a new song. As you listen, you can imagine blowing clouds away and flying a kite in the sky. Or just kick back, relax, and listen.

Sometimes I’m down in the dumps

Sometimes I frown like a grump

Sometimes my throat has a lump

Sometimes I fall into a slump

But I can close my eyes

And picture all the clouds in the sky

And when they feel too heavy and grey

That’s when I blow the clouds away

Sometimes I’m down in the dumps

Sometimes I frown like a grump

Sometimes by bike hits a bump

Sometimes I fall on my rump

But I can close my eyes

And picture all the clouds in the sky

And when they feel too heavy and grey

That’s when I blow the clouds away

Close your eyes

Breathe in deep

Hold on tight

To what you want to keep

When you want to fly your kite

But it’s a dull and rainy day

Just breathe in deep

And blow the clouds away

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon. Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day, and thank you for listening.
