First we’ll float like fluffy clouds. Then we’ll talk about angry rain clouds, and let our anger fall away like raindrops.

Hello! My name is Noah, and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. Welcome! I’m very glad you’re here. This podcast wouldn’t be possible without our listeners. Grownups, please visit patreon.com/likeyoupodcast to help us continue making weekly episodes. Today we’re going to pretend to be a cloud floating in the sky. We’ll imagine how a cloud might feel on a sunny day, and what it might feel like when it fills up with rain. Find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. If I ask you a question, or tell you to repeat something, you can speak out loud, or just think it quietly in your head. Imagine we’re just two friends sitting together; I can talk to you, and you can talk to me! Let’s try that now. I want you to think about the weather where you are. Is it hot or cold? Sunny or rainy? Can you tell me what the weather is like where you are?

Thank you for telling me about your weather. There are so many of you listening around the world, that you all told me about many different types of weather. But today we’re going to all imagine the same kind of weather as we make believe together. Before we get started, let’s take a minute to clear our heads. First, close your eyes. Now I want you to imagine you are the wind. Picture a big blue sky, and 3 fluffy white clouds. We’re going to blow those clouds away one at a time. So take a deep breath in… and blow the first cloud away. Now the second cloud. Take another deep breath in… and blow a cloud away. There’s only one cloud left. Take one more deep breath in… and blow the last cloud away. Great job! Now you should be picturing a big blue sky with no more clouds. If you ever feel like your head is all cluttered up and you need to clear your mind, remember this exercise and imagine you’re blowing clouds away. Right now together we’re all going to say “I like me.” On the count of 3. Are you ready? Ok, here we go. 1, 2, 3 “I like me!”

I like you just the way you are! Now we’re ready to get started. You can keep your eyes closed if that helps you imagine.

Today we’re going to pretend to be a cloud floating in the sky. Since we just blew all the clouds away, you’ll be the only cloud in your sky. So imagine that big blue sky again. Now picture yourself floating through the sky. It is a sunny day, and you are a light, fluffy cloud. You float slowly through the sky. Try swaying slowly side to side. Imagine feeling the warm sun on a pretty spring day.

Let’s pretend the wind is blowing very gently. It is just a breeze. It feels nice and soft and cool. You’re floating in the sky, and you can look down from above to see your house, your family, your friends, your town. Everyone you see below is smiling because it is a warm, sunny day and they look up to see you, a light, fluffy cloud.

It feels nice to be a fluffy cloud. But not every cloud is a fluffy, sunny day cloud. What other kinds clouds have you seen? Cold snow clouds? Rumbling thunderclouds?

We’re going to pretend to be one more kind of cloud – a heavy grey rain cloud. Sometimes when I am angry, I feel like a big grey storm cloud filling up with rain. And as long as I keep all that rain inside, I still feel upset. Have you ever felt like that? Angry like a rain cloud?

Imagine the sky around you is dark. You’re such a big rain cloud that the sun can barely shine around you. But here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to let all of our rain just fall away. Can you do that? You’re a rain cloud, just letting all your angry raindrops fall away. And as the raindrops fall, you feel lighter. You feel fluffier. You feel the sun coming out again. You feel better.

Next time you feel angry, try this. Stop. Take a deep breath, and imagine you are a raincloud letting your angry raindrops fall away. And remember that the sun will always come out to shine again.

Now I’m going to ask you to repeat a few phrases after me. These are called affirmations. They are short sentences that help you feel good about yourself. Even after this podcast is over, you can think about these affirmations any time you need something to cheer you up or give you some confidence. I’ll say each one twice. Listen the first time, then repeat it with me out loud or in your head:

I like me. *

No matter how hard it is, I can do it. *

All of my problems have solutions. *

I am not alone in my feelings. *

It’s ok to make mistakes. *

Today is going to be my day. *

Now smile, and take a few slow, deep breathes as we wind down our time together.

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon! On the next podcast, we’re going to learn to send loving wishes into the world. Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
