[intro music]

Keira: Hi Noah. My name is Keira and I’m 8 years old and I’m from Maine. And what I love about this podcast is everything! How calm it makes me, and all the affirmations, and the songs you say. Thanks Noah!

Noah: Hello! I’m Noah and this is Like You: Mindfulness for Kids. I’m so glad that you’re here! Thanks for the message Keira! I’m glad you enjoy listening! On this episode we’ll travel to outer space and imagine how it feels to walk on the moon. So listeners of all ages, find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. As I ask questions and invite you to say affirmations, you’re welcome to speak out loud, or as always, you can just think your responses quietly in your mind.

Let’s begin with a breathing exercise to calm your body and focus your mind. We’ll make this breathing exercise a part of our preparation for traveling to the moon. Start by pulling on your astronaut helmet. Now take a few breaths and feel the oxygen flowing inside your spacesuit.

Now let’s breathe deep as we count down from 5, then breathe out as we imagine blasting off. Ready? Take a deep breath in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Now, breathe out as you blast off! [blow]. Let’s do that again. Deep breath in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Breathe out as you blast off! One last time. Long breath in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. And blast off! Great job! Now I’ll do one last countdown. This time, when I get to 1, let’s all say “I like me.” 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. I like me!

I like you too. You are bright and beautiful like a star in the sky.

Now that we’ve blasted off, let’s imagine floating in space. Keep breathing deep and relaxing. Imagine how it feels to float weightlessly in space, as light as a feather. Relax every part of your body as you imagine floating and breathing inside your astronaut helmet.

Now let’s take a look around. Thousands of stars surround you. Imagine the light of the stars slowly twinkling brighter… and dimmer… then brighter again. Take a few moments to just enjoy the beautiful glow of their light.

When you look down, you can see our home planet, Earth. From way up here in outer space, it seems so small. And yet it is home to you, and everyone you know, and billions of other people all around the world. Watch the earth slowly spinning, as you think about all of the people that call this planet home. Even though the people you love are far away, you can make the distance seem small by holding them in your heart. Think about someone you love now. Whenever you think of them, it’s like they are with you.

Your space ship is slowly moving away from earth. Watch earth growing smaller and smaller as you glide through space. As you’re traveling away from earth, you’re moving closer and closer to the moon. Turn and look at the moon.

It glows bright, reflecting the light of the sun to fill the night sky. The twinkling stars were beautiful, but compared to them the moon is big, and bright, and breathtaking. Take a few moments to appreciate the glow of the moon. Thank you, moon.

Now it’s time to land on the moon. As your space shuttle lowers down to the surface of the moon, let your arms relax and drop them down, hanging loose.

Imagine climbing down a ladder and setting foot on the surface of the moon.

How would it feel to stand on the moon? Would you feel nervous? Excited? Full of wonder?

Let’s try taking a walk on the moon. There’s less gravity here, so you’re nearly weightless. With each step, you float through the air and gently return to the ground. Let’s take a few more deep breaths. With each breathe in imagine taking a big step and leaping through the air. With each breath out, imagine easing back to the ground.

Breathe in and leap through space. Breathe out and float back down.

Breathe in, with a giant step through the air. Breathe out and ease back down to the surface of the moon.

You’ve got the hang of it. Take a few more minutes to imagine bouncing and floating as you walk on the moon. As you enjoy your moonwalk, I’ll sing you a new song about shining as bright as the moon.

I know that I’m so bright

Glowing like the moonlight

Calm and peaceful all night

Glowing like the moonlight

Now I’m feeling alright

Glowing like the moonlight

Mmmmmmmm

Glowing like the moonlight

Breathe deep to fill my chest

Til I’m as full as the moon

Relax and let my body rest

Til I’m as full as the moon

I fill myself with good thoughts

Til I’m as full as the moon

So grateful now for all I’ve got

I’m as full as the moon

I know that I’m so bright

Glowing like the moonlight

Calm and peaceful all night

Glowing like the moonlight

Now I’m feeling alright

Glowing like the moonlight

Mmmmmmmm

Glowing like the moonlight

Now it’s time for affirmations. Affirmations are words you can say about yourself to remind yourself how wonderful you are. You can say these out loud or inside your head. I’ll say each affirmation twice. So you can listen the first time, then say it together with me the second time. Here we go.

My mind is full of brilliant ideas.

I try my best each day.

I work hard to achieve my goals.

I am full of confidence.

I am thankful for today.

I dream big and shoot for the stars.

I deserve good things.

I’m out of this world.

Now let’s take a few slow, deep breaths as we wind down our time together. If any of those affirmations stood out to you, feel free to write them down, or just store them safely in your mind to say when you need it. If you have an affirmation that is special to you, I would love to hear it! If you’d like to send a recording of your favorite affirmation to play on the show, have a grownup check our website or episode notes for more information.

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon. Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
