[intro music]
Noah: Hello! I’m Noah and this is Like You: Mindfulness for Kids. I’m so glad you’re here! Today’s episode is a special edition music and affirmations podcast, packed with nothing but songs and affirmations. If listening to music and saying affirmations are your two favorite parts of this podcast, then this is the episode for you. Actually this is the sixth episode in the Music and Affirmation series, so be sure to search back through our older episode to find the first 5.
So listeners of all ages, find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. As I ask questions and invite you to say affirmations, you’re welcome to speak out loud, or as always, you can just think your responses quietly in your mind. And as for the songs, feel free to sing or dance along, or just sit back, relax, and listen.
I’m going to start things off with a brand new breathing song called Breathe in Slowly. I think you’ll have no problem following along. Just take a deep slow breath each time I sing “breathe in.” You’ll also hear the music rising up as you breathe in. Then breathe out slowly when I sing “breathe out” and the music moves back down. Keep breathing with the rhythm of the song and you’ll do fine. Here we go.
Breathe in slowly through your nose
Breathe out long and let it go
Breathe in deep and fill your chest
Breathe out, let your body rest
Breathe and feel your belly rise
Breathe out as you close your eyes
Breathe and let your troubles go
Relax your body head to toe
Breathe in slowly through your nose
Breathe out long and let it go
I hope that song helped you feel more calm and focused as the podcast begins. Now let’s say our first affirmation. It’s a short and simple one that we say at the start of every episode of Like You. I’m going to let a listener introduce it this time.
Ralph: Hi Noah. I’m Ralph. I’m 6 years old. My favorite affirmation is I like me.
Noah: Thanks for sharing your favorite affirmation Ralph. Now let’s all say that one together on the count of 3. 1-2-3. I like me.
I like you too. You’re fun to be around, even if we’re doing nothing at all.
Let’s say a few more affirmations now. Remember, affirmations are words you can say about your self to remind yourself how wonderful you are. I’ll say each affirmation twice. Listen the first time, then repeat it with me the second time. Here we go.
I love myself exactly as I am.
I woke up today ready to love.
I can do big things
I am thankful for this moment.
I have everything I need.
There is no one quite like me.
What are some of your favorite things about being you? Think about all the little details that come together to make you, you. Mindfulness is all about paying attention to little details and pausing to take a closer look. So here’s a song all about that, called “Take a Closer Look.”
Pick it up and put it down
Flip it over and turn it around
Look at things from a different side
You never know what may be hidden inside
(Until you)
Take a closer look
Take a closer look
Some things you know like the back of your hand
Other things you just don’t understand
Some things are new to you and me
So when it piques your curiosity
(Just)
Take a closer look
Take a closer look
Take a breath count to three
And take a closer look
Open your eyes to the things you see
And take a closer look
Take a closer look.
Now it’s time for more affirmations. I’ll kick it off with another affirmation from a listener.
Mercy: My name is Elsie and I’m 4 years old. My favorite affirmation is “I’m brave.”
Noah: I’m brave. Thanks for sharing that affirmation, Elsie. Let’s all repeat it together now. I’m brave.
That gives me a great idea. One of the best times to say affirmations is when you’re actually feeling a little scared. Saying affirmations to yourself can give you a little boost of courage and confidence that will remind you how strong you really are. Here are a few more affirmations that are great for when you’re feeling afraid. Listen first, then repeat it with me.
I am strong and powerful.
I believe in myself.
I have courage and confidence.
I know that I can do this.
I can get through anything.
I inhale confidence and exhale doubt.
With every breath I feel stronger.
I am in charge of me.
I am full of wow.
This next song is a reminder that no feeling last forever. So if you feel afraid, or frustrated, or sad, or nervous… eventually it will pass.
Every thought
Has to pass
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass, let it pass
Every feeling
Has to pass
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass, let it pass
Some days the sun ain’t bright
But every sun must set
Stars twinkle through the night
It’s not tomorrow yet
But when the morning’s here
A brand new sun will rise
Its light is bright and clear
It twinkles in your eyes
Every thought
Has to pass
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass, let it pass
Every feeling
Has to pass
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass, let it pass
Some days are dull and grey
With rain clouds in the sky
You might get wet today
Tomorrow could be dry
So breathe in through your nose
And blow the clouds away
‘Cause you already know some affirmations
You could say
Every thought
Has to pass
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass, let it pass
Every feeling
Has to pass
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass, let it pass
Now let’s say a few affirmations to help you remember that every feeling will pass.
All of my problems have solutions.
My challenges help me grow.
I will learn from yesterday and live for today.
Good things are coming my way.
My positive thoughts create positive feelings.
I will do my best with whatever comes my way.
We’ll end with one last song. If this is the last song , that means we’re nearing the end of the podcast. And if we’re nearing the end of the podcast, that means you’ll have to start waiting for the next podcast to come out. So let’s sing a song that will hopefully making the waiting a little easier. It’s called “It’s Hard to Wait.”
It’s hard to… wait
It’s hard to… wait
I think sure think that it would be so great
If I never ever had to… wait
While I wait I’ll spend my time
thinking of a rhyme
Finding out that I’m so patient
It’s hard to… wait
It’s hard to… wait
I sure think that it would be so great
If I never ever had to… wait
Thank you for listening, singing, and saying affirmations today. Be sure to let me know what some of your favorite Like You songs are so I can try to include them next time. Or send in a voice message saying your favorite affirmation for me to play on the show. I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon. Until then, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
