On this episode I’ll pretend to be a fortune teller who can see what makes you special and predict things about your future. So listeners of all ages, find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. Remember, you’re always welcome to interact with this podcast by speaking up to answer my questions or by repeating affirmations aloud. Or if you prefer, you can just think your responses quietly in your mind.

Let’s begin with a breathing exercise to help calm your body and focus your mind. I’ll play a simple breathing song, and all you have to do is breathe along as I sing “breathe in, breathe out.” As you breathe, try relaxing your body and closing your eyes. See if you can think about nothing but your breath moving in and out.

Breathe in

Breathe out

(repeat)

Close your eyes

Take your time

Breathe in

Breathe out

Good job. I hope that helped you feel calm and focused. Now on the count of three let’s all say I like me. 1-2-3. I like me.

I like you too. You are capable of great things. If you work hard, you can accomplish your dreams.

Now I’d like to spend a few minutes make believing that I’m a fortune teller who can predict things about you and your future. Close your eyes if that helps you imagine. Picture a magic crystal ball in front of you. The crystal ball glows softly. The light coming from the ball is your favorite color. Imagine that colorful glow spreading through the room and filling you with a warm, comfy feeling.

Now I’ll peer into the magic crystal ball and tell your fortune. Sit quietly for a few moments as I look deep into the crystal ball. While you wait, breathe deep and continue picturing the warm colorful glow of the crystal ball.

I see your fortune coming in strong now. As I gaze into the crystal ball, I can see some things about you.

I see that you are a very kind person. You make other people smile.

I see that your mind is full of funny and interesting thoughts. People love it when you share your thoughts with them.

I can see that there are many people in your life who care for you. The image is hazy, but if you think about some special people in your life, I’ll be able to see them more clearly. Right now I’m seeing a special grown up in your life. It might be a parent or a grandparent, or a teacher. Can you think of a grownup who you know cares about you? Take a moment to picture their face, and to think about how they make you feel. Yes, this image is growing stronger. This person cares about you, and they can see what a bright and wonderful person you are.

Now I see another person. Someone who appears to be close to your age. It’s probably a friend of yours. Can you think of a good friend you have? Oh! Now I’m sensing two, no three. Wow, you have a lot of friends who love spending time with you. Take a few moments to think about some of your friends and how it feels when you are with them.

You must be a very special person to have so many people in your life who care for you.

Now I’m going to take a look into your future. Sit quietly for a few moments while I wait for the crystal ball to show me what’s in store for you.

Yes, I see something in the ball growing clearer. I see that you will do many great things. I see that you will grow taller this year. I see that you will meet a new friend, or perhaps grow closer to a friend you already have. I see that you will learn many new things.

Hmmm. I see that not everything is going to go your way. There will be some things that make you sad, or angry, or very frustrated, but you will be able to get through those difficult feelings, and have lots of fun, happy times as well.

I also see you laughing. I’m not sure what’s making you laugh, but it must have been very funny, because you are giggling so hard you can’t even control it. Whatever made you laugh like that, I hope you’ll tell me about it when it happens.

Yes, I see many ups and downs. Sad times and happy times. I see you learning new things about yourself. Discovering new songs, books, movies. And I see that whatever comes your way, you are able to handle it. I see that when you feel overwhelmed, you practice taking deep breaths, saying affirmations, and remembering that you’re not alone in your feelings. Thank you for letting me tell your fortune. Your future looks bright!

Now let’s say some affirmations. Affirmations are words you can say about yourself to remind yourself how wonderful you are. I’ll say each affirmation twice. So you can listen the first time, then say it together with me the second time. Here we go.

I will speak kindly to others and myself.

I have people who love and respect me.

I am a good friend.

It’s ok to make mistakes.

I choose to let go of my frustrations.

I get better every single day.

I believe in my goals and dreams.

The world is a better place because of me.

Now let’s take a few slow, deep breaths as we wind down our time together. If any of those affirmations stood out to you, feel free to write them down, or just store them safely in your mind to say when you need it. If you have an affirmation that is special to you, I would love to hear it! If you’d like to send a recording of your favorite affirmation to play on the show, have a grownup check our website or episode notes for more information.

I’d like to end with a song. Feel free to sing, dance, or just relax and take deep breaths.

I’m growing
I’m growing
With each new thing I’m knowing I am growing body, heart and mind
I’m learning
I’m learning
Each day the earth is turning and I know a little more each time
I’m listening
I’m listening
The world around is whispering

and I learn so much from what I find
I’m growing
I’m growing
With each new thing I’m knowing

I am growing body, heart and mind

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon. Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
