Noah: Hello! I’m Noah and this is Like You: Mindfulness for Kids. I’m very glad you’re here. On this episode we’re going to play catch by throwing affirmations back and forth. So listeners of all ages, find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. As I ask questions and invite you to say affirmations, you’re welcome to speak out loud, or as always, you can just think your responses quietly in your mind.

We’re going to begin with a breathing exercise to help relax your body and focus your mind. Close your eyes and imagine a game of catch. Picture a ball being thrown back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Now let your breath sync up with the ball. With one throw, you breathe in, with the next throw, you breathe out. In and out. In and out. Back and forth, back and forth. With each breath, imagine the ball sailing smoothly through the air and being caught. Then the ball gets thrown back, arching high through the sky. Back and forth. In and out. Great job. You can relax. Feel free to o[pen your eyes. Or keep them closed if that feels relaxing right now.

On the count of three let’s all say I like me. 1-2-3. I like me.

I like you too. You are a joy to be around. Thank you for choosing to spend time with me.

Now let’s continue that game of catch. But this is a different kind of catch. We’re going to throw affirmations back and forth. I will say an affirmation to you, then you say one back to me. How does that sound? When it’s your turn to throw an affirmation to me, you can say any affirmation you want. If you’ve been listening to Like You for a while, you may already have a list of your favorite affirmations. On the other hand, if you’re new to our podcast, you may be confused about what affirmations are. Affirmations are positive phrases we can say to ourselves or others, to remind us how wonderful we are. Usually on this podcast, we say affirmations to and about ourselves. But when you want to say an affirmation to someone else, like a friend or family member member, it’s a little bit like giving a compliment. “You are kind.” “You are a good friend.” “You are creative.”

So let’s start our game of affirmation catch. And don’t worry, if you’re having trouble coming up with affirmations to say, you can always just repeat the affirmations I say back to me. Here we go.

I’ll throw you the first affirmation.

You are amazing just the way you are.

Now you catch that affirmation, and then it’s your turn to throw an affirmation back to me. Go ahead.

Now I’ll throw another affirmation back to you.

I’m proud of you.

Once you catch that affirmation, you can throw another one back to me.

I caught it. Here’s another one for you. You are beautiful on the inside and the outside.

Catch it. And throw and affirmation back to me.

My turn. You can do big things.

Your turn.

Here comes another throw from me to you. The world needs someone just like you.

Catch it. And throw one back to me.

Here’s my last throw. Get ready to catch it. You grow smarter and stronger every day.

Now throw one last affirmation to me.

And I caught it. Thanks for playing affirmation catch with me.

This is a game you can play with people in your life who you love. Do you have a brother or sister, or a parent, or a friend who you know likes to say affirmations? Or someone that listens to this podcast with you? When the podcast ends, you can play affirmation catch with each other. Just sit down, facing each other and throw some affirmations back and forth to each other.

Do you need a few more ideas of some good affirmations to say? Well, you’re in luck, because this is the time in our podcast where we always say affirmations. So we’ll say our regular affirmations now. I’ll say each affirmation twice. So you can listen the first time, then say it together with me the second time. Here we go.

My heart is happy and relaxed.

There is no one better to be than myself.

It’s ok to make mistakes.

I believe in myself.

I deserve to be happy.

I am choosing to have an amazing day.

Now let’s take a few slow, deep breaths as we wind down our time together. If any of those affirmations stood out to you, feel free to write them down, or just store them safely in your mind to say when you need it. If you have an affirmation that is special to you, I would love to hear it! If you’d like to send a recording of your favorite affirmation to play on the show, have a grownup check our website or episode notes for more information.

Now let’s end this episode with a song. Feel free to sing, dance, or practice breathing deep breaths as I sing.

I’m glad that I am me

I’m glad that you are you

I’m glad that we both do the things

That we each like to do

I’m glad that I know you

I’m glad you know me too

We’re different but we teach each other

Things we never knew

What if you were me?

And what if I were you?

Would we still do the same things

That we’ve always liked to do? I wonder…

But you’ll always be you

And I’ll always be me

We learn and grow and change our clothes

But stay the same beneath

I’m glad that I am me

I’m glad that you are you

I’m proud of how you’re growing

And I like your point of view

And I like you

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon. Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
