Hello! I’m Noah, and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. Today I’m going to tell you how you are magic! First, I want to invite any grownups listening to become a member of our Patreon group. Now, we’re ready to start the episode, so find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. Remember when I ask you questions, or tell you to repeat something, you can speak out loud, or just think it quietly in your head.

Now, let’s take some deep breaths together. We’ll breath in through our nose deep and slow, then we’ll blow a quick puff of air out through our mouth. Like this. Deep breath in through your nose. Now a quick puff out. Once again. Deep breath in through your nose. Quick puff out your mouth. Last time. Deep breath through your nose. Quick puff out. Now on the count of three say “I like me.” 1, 2, 3 “I like me!”

I like you too! You may not realize it, but you are magic.  And so am I. And so is everyone you meet. Sure, at first glance, you may not notice anything magic when you look at a friend or when you look in the mirror. But today I’m going to tell you some magical facts about people, that might make you think twice before saying you’re not magic.

So here we go, some magical facts about people. Look down at your fingertips – not the side with fingernails. Flip your fingers over to look at the other side. If you look closely, you’ll see your fingerprints – curvy swirly lines that are part of your skin. We all have fingerprints. Can you see yours? Now, here’s the magical part. No two people have the same fingerprints. Your fingerprints look different than anyone else’s in the world. Even if you’re an identical twin, your fingerprints are unique. You may have already known that fingerprints are unique, but did you know that every person also has a unique tongue print? It’s true. See if you can stick your tongue out far enough to see it. There are little bumps called taste buds on your tongue, and no two people have tongues that look the same. To get a good look at your tongue, you may have to take a look in the mirror after the podcast is over. If you’re listening together with someone, like a sibling or a parent, you can try sticking your tongues out at each other to see what a unique tongue print looks like.
Now, let’s move on to your nose. Take a deep breath in through your nose like we did at the beginning of the show. Do you smell anything? Well here’s a magical fact – the nose can detect a trillion different smells. A trillion is a very very very big number. It’s bigger than a hundred, bigger than a thousand, a million, even bigger than a billion. Some smells are subtle, which means you barely notice them. Other smells are very strong. But your nose can smell a trillion different smells.

How about your teeth? Slowly run your tongue along your teeth to feel them. Did you know that human teeth are as strong as shark teeth? Wow! You have strong shark teeth. Can you make a scary shark face with your teeth showing?

Now, I have one last magic fact for you today. Did you know that your brain stays awake even when your body is asleep? Sometimes your brain might even be more active while you’re sleeping than when you’re awake. That’s how you can have dreams. Your brain is thinking about things even though your body is asleep.

So what do you think about all these magical facts? Today we learned that you have unique fingerprints and tongue prints, a super smelling nose, strong as a shark teeth, and a brain that stays awake when you go to sleep. That’s all pretty amazing. So never forget that you are magic. And so is everyone you meet. You can tell other people they are magic and share some of these magic facts with them. And you can always know deep down inside that you are magic. I am magic. Will you say that with me? I am magic! One last time. I am magic!

Wonderful! You just said today’s first affirmation. Let’s keep these affirmations going with my friend Eso.
Eso: Hey it’s Eso. Are you ready for some affirmations? Listen the first time, then say it with me the second time. Ready?

There is no one better to be than myself.

I woke up today ready to love.

I am beautiful inside and out.

My positive thoughts create positive feelings.

I am full of joy.

I can do big things.

Thanks Eso! Now let’s smile, and take a few slow, deep breathes as we wind down our time together and listen to a song.

I am magic
You are magic
We are magic
Don’t forget it
No one else is exactly like you
You’ve got something that only you can do
No one else is exactly like you
Everyone has their magic too
And your magic makes my magic stronger
And my magic makes your magic stronger
I am magic
You are magic
We are magic
Don’t forget it

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon! Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful – and magical – day.
