Noah: Hello! I’m Noah, and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. Who likes ice cream? I thought you might! Today we’re going to imagine being an ice cream cone. First, I want to shout out a few new Patrons who have made generous contributions to our Patreon group: Alan and Owen Faulkner, as well as Louise Bowley. A big thank you to Alan, Owen, and Louise! This podcast is listener supported, so our Patreon members are what makes all this possible. You can find out more, and join us at patreon.com/likeyoupodcast.

Now, we’re ready to start the episode, so find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. Remember when I ask you questions, or tell you to repeat something, you can speak out loud, or just think it quietly in your head.

Now, let’s take some deep breaths together. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. I’ll count to make sure we’re taking long deep breaths. Breathe in 123, and out 123. Once again, breathe in 123, and out 123. One last time. Breathe in 123, and out 123. Now on the count of three say “I like me.” 1, 2, 3 “I like me!”

I like you too! You are cool, and sweet, and you put a smile on people’s face. Never forget that you matter from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet and everything in between. You know what else is cool and sweet and puts a smile on people’s face? You guessed it! Ice cream.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Chocolate? Vanilla? Cookies n Cream? When I was a kid, my favorite was chocolate chip cookie dough, but now I like a flavor called brown butter almond brittle. Does that sound good to you?

Now I want you to close your eyes and picture your favorite flavor ice cream. Are you picturing it? Ok, now pretend that YOU are the ice cream. What do you think it would feel like to be an ice cream cone? Cold? Wrap your arms around yourself and say brrrrr.   One more time. Brrrrrrrrr.

Now imagine someone picks you up and carries you outside on a hot summer day. It’s definitely not cold any more. It feels kind of nice. Drop your arms down to your side and say ahhhhhhhh. One more time. Take a deep breath, relax your shoulders and say ahhhhhhhhh. It’s not too bad being an ice cream cone. Although it is getting a little warm now that I think about it.

Let’s pretend the heat is making you slowly start to melt. Imagine you can feel a drip starting on the top of your head, and we’ll picture that drip slowly sliding down. As the drip passes different parts of your body, I want you to relax that part. We’ll start at the top. Imagine the drip on top of your head is now dripping over your face, and you feel your face relax. Now it’s running down your neck and onto your shoulders. Relax your neck and shoulders. Now the drip runs down your arms and over your body and you feel those parts relaxing too. Now the drip slowly drips down your legs and pools into a puddle at your feet. Relax your legs and feet and take a long deep breath in and out. If you’re able to, try laying down on the floor and spreading out like a big puddle of melted ice cream. Now take another deep breath in 123 and out 123.

How do you think ice cream would feel if it melted in the sun and made a big puddle on the ground? Would it feel sad? Frustrated? Maybe a little lonely? Or would it just be relaxed? What do you think?

Right now I’m going to play you a new song about an ice cream cone and how it might feel happy, sad, or even frustrated. As you listen you can keep your eyes closed and take deep breaths, or if you want, you can get up and dance along with the music! It’s up to you!

Some days I feel like an ice cream cone fresh out of the freezer Cover me in sprinkles and I’ll smile from ear to ear Some days I feel like an ice cream cone outside during summer I feel my smile start to melt, and soon it disappears

Sometimes I smile Sometimes I frown Sometimes I feel like I’m a puddle on the ground So when you’re lonely Or when you’re blue Just remember I like you

I scream, you scream, we all scream sometimes So take a deep breath and remember it’s alright I scream, you scream, we all scream sometimes When you feel frustrated, you can close your eyes And picture an ice cream in the flavor you like And soon you’ll feel alright

Sometimes I smile Sometimes I frown Sometimes I feel like I’m a puddle on the ground So when you’re lonely Or when you’re blue Just remember I like you Some days I feel like an ice cream cone melted on the sidewalk I’m drippy and I’m droopy oh how did I wind up here Some days I feel like an ice cream cone fresh out of the freezer Cover me in sprinkles and I’ll smile from ear to ear

Remember, some days you will feel happy and some days you will feel sad, or frustrated or mad. Everyone feels a range of different emotions, and there are other people who feel just how you do. Right now I want to give you some words that you can say to yourself when you want to help yourself feel good about being you. You know what we call these sayings? Affirmations. We say some on every episode. Today, I’ve invited my friend Meg Lewis back to say some affirmations. You may remember her from an episode about silly ways to cheer yourself up.

Meg: Hey it’s your buddy Meg. Are you ready to say some affirmations? Listen the first time, then say it with me the second time.

There is only one me.

No one in the world is the same as me.

My imagination is amazing.

I am good at so many things.

I will have so much fun today.

Thank you Meg! With those affirmations I’m sure I will have fun today. Now let’s smile, and take a few slow, deep breathes as we wind down our time together.

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon! Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
