Hello! I’m Noah, and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. Today I have a relaxing episode where we’ll imagine floating on a stream. Before we start, I want to say a few things to the grownups. First, thanks for listening! I’m glad you’re here! If you or your kids have been listening for a while, I’d love it if you would leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. It helps other listeners find us. Also, if you’re ready to support the podcast directly, you can join our Patreon group, and receive some special perks while helping to make this podcast possible. Now, we’re ready to start the podcast, so find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. This podcast is interactive, which means you can do more than listen; you can be a part of the podcast. You can speak out loud, answer my questions, and repeat affirmations. If you’d rather just say things quietly in your head, that’s ok too.

Let’s start by breathing together. This time I’d like to add some movement to our breathing, so as you breathe in, slowly raise your arms up over your head, and when you breathe out slowly put your arms back down. Let’s try it. Take a deep breath in as you raise your arms up. Now a long breath out while you lower your arms. Once more breathe in, arms up. And breathe out, arms down. One last time. Breathe in, arms up. And Breathe out, arms down. Now on the count of three, we’ll say “I like me.” 1, 2, 3 “I like me!”

I like you too! You are a smart, kind, and wonderful person.

Now we’re ready for a relaxing float down a gentle stream. Let’s close our eyes and imagine discovering a stream.

[sound effects]

As you walk through a forest, you hear birds singing and wind blowing through the trees. Then you notice another sound creeping in. It is the sound of water running. You walk toward the sound, and it grows louder until you find yourself standing on the banks of a stream. The water is clear, and you can see straight to the bottom of the stream as the water glides over smooth rocks, and fish dart back and forth. You look around and notice a small wooden raft. As you approach the raft, you see that there is a note on the raft. It reads “this raft was made just for you. Kick back, relax, and float down the stream.

Now imagine that you step onto the raft and lie down on your back, and the raft is exactly the right size for you. If you’re in a place where you are able to, you can try lying on your back in real life, as we we imagine floating on the stream.

As you lie on the raft, you slowly begin to drift down stream. You can feel the raft gentle swaying side to side. The raft is comfortable, and you feel completely safe and in control… When you think about drifting to one side, that’s where the raft goes. Now try thinking about drifting the other way, and the raft goes just the way you want.

Try relaxing every part of your body. Let your head relax. Release the tension from your shoulders and your arms. Take a deep belly breath and let your stomach relax. Now relax your legs. You are lying completely still, but imagine you can feel the raft gentle bobbing up and down, and drifting side to side.

While you continue to relax, I have a song to sing. As you listen imagine floating gently on the stream.

Kick back, relax
And float down stream
Eyes closed, let go
Feels like a pleasant dream
Breathe in and out
And feel the water flow
And with each breath
A peaceful feeling grows
Be you and you won’t ever have to hide
You’re not alone the way you feel inside
Your friends are waiting on the riverside
We all agree, you fill us up with pride
The stream moves slow
And there’s no need to rush
You drift and sway
And everything is hushed
Be you and you won’t ever have to hide
You’re not alone the way you feel inside
Your friends are standing on the riverside
We all agree, you fill us up with pride
Kick back, relax
And float down stream
Eyes closed, let go
Feels like a pleasant dream

Now the raft ride is coming to an end. Your raft drifts softly to the edge of the stream. You sit up, and climb safely onto the banks of the stream. Now imagine looking up and seeing your best friend waiting for you! You smile and wave, and you feel grateful that the stream led you here to be with your friend. Now you can open your eyes if you’d like, or keep them closed if you’re feeling relaxed.

Now it’s time to say affirmations. Affirmations are short sentences you can say to yourself to remind you how wonderful you are. I will say each affirmation twice, so you can listen to it the first time, then say it with me the second time.

I like me.

Other people like me.

With every breath, I feel stronger.

I take things one step at a time.

I am in control of my feelings.

I am learning new things every day.

I believe in myself.

Thank you for saying those affirmations with me. Remember, you can say these things to yourself any time you need to remember how incredible you are.

Now let’s smile, and take a few slow, deep breath s as we wind down our time together.

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon! Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
