Today we’ll imagine watching a sunset as we say goodbye to today and hello to tomorrow.

Scarlett: Hi My name is Scarlett. I am seven years old and I live in Houston Texas. I love Like You because Noah writes so beautiful songs.
Noah: Hello! I’m Noah, and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. I’m very glad you’re here. I always look forward to the time we get to spend together during this podcast. Today we are going to imagine watching a beautiful sunset. First, I want to say thank you to Scarlett for sending the message you heard at the beginning of the show. If you want to hear your own voice on Like You, ask a grownup to record a voice memo and email it to us at likeyoupod@gmail.com. Grownups, if you’d like to support our show, you can join us a patreon.com/likeyoupodcast, or leave us a review on Apple podcasts.
Now, we’re ready to start the podcast, so find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. I invite you to be a part of the podcast. You can speak out loud, answer my questions, and repeat affirmations. If you’d rather just say things quietly in your head, that’s ok too.
Let’s start by breathing together. As we breathe, imagine your head is the sun rising and setting. When you breathe in, lift your head up high and look up. As you breathe out, drop your head as you look down and close your eyes. Let’s try it. Take a deep breath in as you and lift your head up. Now a long breath out while you drop your head back down. Once more. Breathe in, head up high like the sun. And breathe out, head down like a setting sun. One last time. Breathe in, head up high. And Breathe out, head down low. Way to go. Now on the count of three, we’ll say “I like me.” 1, 2, 3 “I like me!”
I like you too! There’s no one else quite like you, and you light up the room wherever you go.
Have you ever seen a sunset? Have you ever sat outside and watched the sun going down? In some places, it can be hard to see the sunset, like somewhere when there are tall buildings or lots of trees. But sunsets can look extra amazing when you have a good view of it, like watching the sun set over a river, or a lake, or the ocean.
Today we’ll imagine watching a sunset over the sea. I hope you’re in a comfortable seat. You can imagine it is a beach chair. Try closing your eyes to help imagine. Imagine you feel a cool breeze and you can smell fresh ocean air.
Now, I don’t know what time it is where you are right now. You might be listening to this podcast first thing in the morning. It might be afternoon, or it might be right before bed. But whatever time it really is where you are, we’re all going to pretend that it is the end of a long eventful day full of fun. As you look out over the ocean, you see a blue sky and a big orange sun, very low in the sky. All around the sun, the sky is beginning to turn orange. You take a deep breath, and you think back and remember your favorite part of the day, and it makes you smile. Can you think about something you enjoyed today?
Now the sun sinks lower and you begin to notice some purple creeping into the sky. It’s a very beautiful color. You take another deep breath, and you feel glad to be right here where you are right now. Take another deep breath as you imagine the wonderful colors of the sunset. The purple slowly shifts to pink. The sun sinks lower and lower in the sky, and you’ve never seen so many colors in the sky. Blue, purple, pink, and orange. It’s amazing to see. Take a deep breath and say wow.
Now you can only see a small orange curve of the sun barely peaking over the horizon of the ocean. As the sun sets, the day is ending, and tomorrow is getting much closer. You begin to think about tomorrow. What is one thing you hope for tomorrow? Is there something you’re looking forward to? Or something you hope you can do tomorrow? Take a deep breath and think about something you hope for.
Let’s say Goodbye today. Hello tomorrow. Repeat that with me: Goodbye today. Hello tomorrow.
Now the sun slides out of sight, and you look up at a night sky full of bright twinkling stars.
Thank you for imagining that sunset with me. You can open your eyes now, or keep them closed if you like to.
We’re going to say affirmations. Affirmations are short sentences you can say to yourself to remind you how wonderful you are. I will say each affirmation twice, so you can listen to it the first time, then say it with me the second time.
I like me.
I am beautiful inside and outside.
There’s no one better to be than myself.
Everyday, I learn and grow.
I am full of wow.
My positive thoughts create positive feelings.
Thank you for saying those affirmations with me. Remember, you can say these things to yourself any time you need to remember how incredible you are.
Now let’s smile, and take a few slow, deep breaths as we wind down our time together. As you breathe, I will sing a song about feeling full of wonder. Wonder may be what you feel after watching a beautiful sunset.
One, One, Wonderful
