Your child can introduce themself and then say a favorite affirmation, sing a line from a Like You song, say what they like about the show, or share whatever they feel! Keep it short (10-20 seconds), send it to our email, and then wait patiently. It is our goal to share every recording eventually!

Noah: Hello! I’m Noah and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. Today we’re going on a relaxing hike through an imaginary forest, so lace up some comfortable shoes or hiking boots.  But first, a quick word for the grownups. Like You is listener supported, so if you’d like to help us continue making new episodes, join us at patreon.com/likeyoupodcast. We also appreciate it when you help others find our show by telling your friends, or writing a review on Apple podcasts.

Now, we’re ready to start the podcast, so find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. I invite everyone listening to be a part of this podcast – That means you! You can use your imagination, share your thoughts, and speak up when if I ask any questions. Of course, if you’d rather just think things quietly in your head, that’s ok too.
Let’s start by breathing together. First I want you to picture a big beautiful tree. Its leaves have all turned from green to yellow as they do during fall. It’s the time of the year when leaves are ready to fall from trees. And that’s where you come in. You will be a big gust of wind. So take a deep breath in. And blow your wind on the tree. The tree sways back and forth and a few leaves shake loose and slowly drift down, down to the ground. I wonder how a leaf feels as it drifts to the ground. I bet it has fun floating and fluttering in the wind. Let’s give this tree another big gust of wind. Take a deep breath in. And blow your wind out. Even more of the yellow leaves begin drifting down to the ground. Let’s see how many leaves we can blow out of the tree with one last big gust of wind. Take a long deep breath in. Now your biggest gust of wind! And watch as hundreds of yellow leaves flutter down all around. Below the tree, there is now a huge pile of leaves. Now imagine yourself, jumping into that pile of leaves. The leaves catch you as you land on top of them, like dropping onto a big comfy pillow. Imagine laying on your back in the pile of leaves and looking up as clouds drift by in the sky. I think it’s a wonderful day for a hike. And that’s what we’re doing next. First I’ll count to three, and we’ll all say “I like me.” Ready? 1, 2, 3 “I like me!”

I like you too! There’s no one else quite like you, and no matter how much things change around you, you’re always you. And that’s the best thing you can be.

Alright. Lace up your shoes, and we’re going on a hike. on this imaginary hike, we’ll listen to the relaxing sounds of a forest as we explore. You can close your eyes if that helps you picture things better. Imagine standing in a forest. [forest breeze] Tall trees surround you on all sides. The breeze blows gently through the branches. You look up at the branches above you. You see leaves of yellow, red, orange, and brown swaying with the wind. You also see the green needles of a pine tree. You take a deep breath in through your nose and you can smell those pine needles, as well as the wood of the trees. Birds begin singing all around you. Relax for a moment as you imagine the colors and the smells and listen to the wind blowing through the trees and the birds singing.

Now let’s start our hike. As you walk, your feet make a rhythmic sound on the dirt trail. [hiking]

As we continue walking we come across some leaves covering the path, so we walk over the leaves. [walking on leaves].

On the other side of the leaves, the dirt path returns, and we continue walking, listening to the birds. As you walk, you look around at the trees and you see some of the birds. What type of bird do you imagine? What color is it? How big? Is it perched alone on a tree branch or flying with its friends?

Soon we approach a stream and we stop beside it. The water is clear and cool as it flows over rocks and stones. We watch a family of fish swimming together. One fish swims to the edge of the stream and looks up at us, blowing little bubbles as it breathes. You can wave at the fish. The fish flutters its fins as if it’s waving back at you. Then it quickly darts away, rejoining its family as they swim down stream. Let’s take a few minutes to listen to a song about floating down stream. While you listen you can close your eyes and breathe long deep breaths as you imagine floating. Or if you prefer, you can stand up and dance slowly, twirling and waving your arms.

Kick back, relax

And float down stream

Eyes closed, let go

Feels like a pleasant dream

Breathe in and out

And feel the water flow

And with each breath

A peaceful feeling grows

Be you and you won’t ever have to hide

You’re not alone the way you feel inside

Your friends are waiting on the riverside

We all agree, you fill us up with pride

The stream moves slow

And there’s no need to rush

You drift and sway

And everything is hushed

Be you and you won’t ever have to hide

You’re not alone the way you feel inside

Your friends are standing on the riverside

We all agree, you fill us up with pride

Kick back, relax

And float down stream

Eyes closed, let go

Feels like a pleasant dream

Now it’s time to say affirmations. Please welcome our friend Mia. Say hi Mia!

Mia: Hey, it’s Mia! Are you ready to say some affirmations? Listen the first time, then say it with me the second time.

There is no one better to be than myself.

I am open and ready to learn.

I am always growing.

No matter how hard it is, I can do it.

With every breath, I feel stronger.

Noah: Thank you Mia. We’ll remember these affirmations next time we need a little boost. Now let’s smile, and take a few slow, deep breaths as we wind down our time together.

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon! Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
