Your child can introduce themself and then say a favorite affirmation, sing a line from a Like You song, say what they like about the show, or share whatever they feel! Keep it short (10-20 seconds), send it to our email, and then wait patiently. It is our goal to share every recording eventually!

Noah: Hello! I’m Noah and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. I’m glad you’re here! Today we’ll practice taking note of what is all around us. First, a reminder for any grownups listening. Our podcast is listener supported, and we’d love to have your help to make more episodes possible. You can join our Patreon group at patreon.com/likeyoupodcast to get early access to episodes, original song downloads, and other special perks. You can also check out the shirts, stickers, and other items in our online shop, which you can find at likeyoupodast.com. And as always, please tell your friends or leave a review on Apple Podcasts to help spread the word. Now we’re ready to start today’s episode! So find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. Feel free to speak up and chime in with your own thoughts or responses, but if you’d rather keep those thoughts quiet in your head, that’s ok too.

Let’s kick things off with a simple breathing exercise.

This exercise includes some movement. While you breathe in, I’ll ask you to slowly tilt your head back looking up, up, up. Then while breathing out you’ll move your head back down, down, down. Here we go. Take a long deep breath in and tilt your head up, up, up. Now slowly let all that breath out as you move your head down, down, down. Once again. Breathe in, and look up, up, up. Breathe out and look down, down, down. Last time. Long breath in, tilting your head up, up, up. And a long breath out, tilting your head down, down, down. Excellent! Now on the count of three we’ll all say “I like me.” 1-2-3. I like me.

I like you too. No matter where you go, and no matter what you do, you’ll never find anyone else quite like you. And you are wonderful just the way you are.

Now, even though we’re done with the breathing exercise, we’re going to look up one more time. So slowly tilt your head back, looking up, up, up until you’re looking straight up above you. Tell me what you see.

If you’re inside you probably see a ceiling. If you’re outside you might see the sky, or a tree, or clouds. Today I want to practice mindful observation. That means looking very closely at what is around you and noticing little details. Looking up at a ceiling might sound boring, but how many little details can you notice about the ceiling… maybe things you’ve never noticed before. What color is it? Does it look smooth or bumpy? How tall is it? If you could stack up multiple you’s, how many you’s would it take to be as tall as the ceiling? What else is on the ceiling? A light? A fan? A vent? A crack? There are many little details to notice even when you’re looking at something as simple as a ceiling. So look up, and let me as again: what do you see? In as much detail as you can, tell me what you see.

Great job. You’re doing some great work in practicing to become more observant. Next, I want to give you something more interesting to observe. If you’re able to, I want you to find a window to look out. Maybe you’re in a car and there are windows on all sides. Maybe you’re in a room with a window. If the window if up too high to see out, ask a grownup if they can lift you up or help you find a safe way to look out the window. Once you have found a window, tell me what you see when you look out the window.

I have no way of knowing what you can see out your window because I am not there in the same room as you. Out your window, there might be a busy city street with people walking, noisy traffic, and tall buildings. There might be a quiet yard with grass and trees. Maybe your window overlooks a forest, or a beach, or desert. Maybe it is sunny, or cloudy, or snowy. One thing is for sure, even with thousands of people listening to this podcast no one else will see the same things you see when you look out your window. Well, unless you’re listening along with a sibling, a family member, or someone who takes care of you. Take a moment to just quietly observe what you see out your window, noticing every little detail. If you want, you can speak aloud and tell me what you see. Or you can just quietly watch, exploring your private window view that’s different than anyone else’s view.

Now, tell me. As you looked closely, did you notice anything new that you’d never seen before? The great thing about mindful observation is that you can practice it anywhere, any time, and you’ll often notice things you’ve never seen even in places you’ve been a hundred times before. Sometimes as you look closely at things around you, you’ll start to feel your mind wander, with new thoughts, ideas, and daydreams drifting in. It’s amazing what wonderful new things we think of when we take a few quiet moments to look up, to look out a window, or to just look around.

Now I’ll ask you to look at one more thing. Are you able to see the sky from your window? If you are, I want you to look at the sky and imagine what it would be like to be a bird flying through the sky. If you can’t see much of the sky from your window, you can always just close your eyes and picture a the sky in your mind. Let yourself breathe slowly and deeply as you listen to this song and imagine flying like a bird.
I’m flying like a bird
I’m flying like a bird
The sky is so blue
And the wind is at my wings
I’m gliding through the air
And it makes me want to sing
I’m flying like a bird
I’m flying like a bird
At first I was a little scared
Of trying something new
But now I’m flying in the sky
And smiling at the view
I’m flying like a bird
I’m flying like a bird
Ok, now float back down to earth, because it’s time to say affirmations. Welcome our friend, Mia.

Mia: Hey, it’s Mia! Are you ready to say some affirmations? Listen the first time, then say it with me the second time.

I believe in myself

I can do hard things

It is enough to do my best

With every breath, I feel stronger

I get better every single day

There is no one better to be than myself

Noah: Thanks Mia! Now let’s smile and take a few deep breaths as we wind down our time together.

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon. Until then, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
