Kai: Hi Noah, my name is Kai. I’m 5 years old and I’m from Redmond Washington, and I’m glad that we do the breathing exercises so well.

Noah: Hello! I’m Noah and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. Thank you to Kai for sending me the voice message you just heard. If any other listeners want to send a message sharing their favorite breathing exercise or affirmation, have grownup record a voice memo and email it to hello@likeyoupodcast.com! Today we’ll talk all about what sort of relaxing things help us feel comfy and cozy. First, a word for the grownups. Like You is listener supported, so if you’d like to help us continue making new episodes, join us at patreon.com/likeyoupodcast for early access to every episode, and other special perks. We also appreciate it when you spread the word about our podcast by telling friends or leaving a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. Alright, listeners of all ages, find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. You’re an important part of this podcast, so I invite you to answer questions aloud and participate in our activities. Of course, if you’d rather just think your answers quietly in your head, that’s ok too.

I have one last bit of news to share before we jump into our breathing exercise. Like You will be taking a summer break for the next few weeks. During that break I’ll be re-sharing encores of some of your favorite episodes, and I’ll also be telling you about about a few other podcasts you might want to check out! So continue to tune in each week!

Now it’s time for our breathing exercise. To start I want you to think about one thing that makes you happy, and one thing that you don’t like at all. Take a moment to pick those two things.

Now I want you to close your eyes. As you take a long deep breath in, I want you to imagine you are breathing in that thing that makes you happy. And as you breathe out, think of the thing you don’t like, and imagine blowing it far far away from you. Let’s try that.

Take a long deep breath in. Think of something happy and let it fill you up inside. Allow a smile to spread across your face. Now think of something you don’t like and blow as hard as you can to blow it far away.

Once more. Take a long happy breath in, filling yourself up with warm smiles and sunshine. Then blow away all the bad things you don’t like. Same thing. One last time. Long deep breath in. Big breath out.

On the count of three we’ll all say I like me. 1-2-3. I like me.

I like you too. You are a wonderful person, inside and outside.

What comes to your mind when I say the words comfy cozy?

What is something that makes you feel comfy and cozy? Something that helps you feel relaxed, comfortable, and warm all over?

The answer may be different for every one of us, because feeling comfy cozy is all about finding something that makes you feel like you’re exactly where you want to be. When I find myself feeling comfy cozy, I like to notice every little detail about that moment. I save these memories away, so that the next time I feel anxious, scared, or overwhelmed, I can close my eyes and remember every detail about feeling comfy cozy. With a little practice, you’ll find you can close your eyes and transport yourself back to that comfy cozy moment any time you need to.

So have you thought of what makes you feel comfy cozy? I’ll share one of mine with some of the details that help me feel relaxed every time I think about it. I always feel comfy on family movie night. My whole family sits on one couch, with the lights dimmed, and a funny movie on the TV. When it’s a little chilly, we’ll pull out a big fluffy blanket that’s large enough to cover all four of us. That’s when I feel comfy cozy.

Now let’s all try imagining comfy cozy moments together. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in through your nose, and let out a long sigh. I’ll describe a few different things that might make people feel relaxed and for each one, spend a few moments imagining what these things would feel like to you. We all enjoy different things, so maybe every one of these won’t be cozy to you, but hopefully you’ll find a few that are.

Maybe you feel comfy cozy when you’re curled up in a chair reading a good book.

Maybe it’s when you sip a cup of hot chocolate on a cold day, and feel the steam rising up to your face.

Maybe it’s when you lie in the grass with the warm sun shining on your face.

Maybe it’s when you wear your favorite shirt,

or when you squeeze your favorite stuffed animal.

Maybe you feel comfy cozy when you hug someone you love.

Maybe you feel comfy cozy when you smell your grandma’s cooking.

Or maybe you’re most comfy cozy at the end of a long day when you snuggle into bed and close your eyes at night.

Did any of these sound like things that make you feel comfy cozy? These are thoughts you can return to any time you need a moment of calm. Maybe you can even think of a few more of your own. As we listen to this song, I want you to practice thinking about a moment that makes you feel warm and relaxed inside.

Comfy cozy

Head to toes-y

Feeling safe and warm inside

My heart feels light

My cheeks feel rosy

Breathing deep and smiling wide

When I feel I can’t control things

When my yes turns into no

When the world seems wild and noisy

And I need some place to go

I can reach inside myself

Pull a book down from the shelf

Think a thought that makes me grin

And imagine deep within I’m

Comfy cozy

Head to toes-y

Feeling safe and warm inside

My heart feels light

My cheeks feel rosy

Breathing deep and smiling wide

And now it’s time for today’s affirmations. Affirmations are words you can say about yourself to remember how wonderful you are. I’ll say each one twice. Listen once, then repeat it with me.

I am so proud of who I am

I believe in me

My confidence is beautiful

I am in control of my feelings

I trust myself

I am thankful for today

Nothing will steal my joy.

There’s no one better to be than myself

Now let’s smile and take a few slow, deep breaths as we wind down our time together.

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon. Remember, for the next few weeks I’ll be on summer break. Even though there won’t be new episodes, I’ll be re-posting some of your favorite past episodes, and I’ll also be introducing you to some other podcasts you may enjoy. Until then, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
