Encore: Affirmations and Wishes

This is a special encore of one of our favorite episodes. In this special episode, we are focusing on saying affirmations and making wishes because loving others starts with loving yourself. Featuring affirmations from Noah Glenn, Mia Saine, and Eso Tolson.

Show Notes

Like You is taking a short winter break. New episodes will return on January 5th. In the mean time, I decided to revisit a couple of past episodes. Maybe this will be an old favorite, or maybe it’s one you haven’t heard before.

Like You is listener supported. Learn how you can support the show by becoming a patron on Patreon.

Please send us a voice memo, drawing, or letter at hello@likeyoupodcast.com. We play a voice memo from a listener at the beginning of most episodes. If your child wants to be included, record a voice memo on your phone and email it to us. Your child can introduce themself and then say a favorite affirmation, sing a line from a Like You song, say what they like about the show, or share whatever they feel! Keep it short (10-20 seconds), send it to our email, and then wait patiently. It is our goal to share every recording eventually!

Like You is written and produced by Noah Glenn. The show’s artwork was illustrated by Mia Saine.

Our social media feeds are managed by Noah and Lindsey Glenn.

This episode features original music by Noah Glenn, as well as additional music by IMAKEMADBEATS and Jon Gegelman.

This episode’s affirmations were read by Noah, Eso Tolson, and Mia Saine.

Noah: Hello! I’m Noah, and this is Like You, a mindfulness podcast for kids. I’m very glad you’re here. I always look forward to the time we get to spend together during this podcast. For the grownups listening, please consider joining us on Patreon to help us continue making episodes of Like You. Today we’re going to learn that loving others starts with loving yourself. To do that, we are going to have a special episode that focuses on wishes and affirmations. So find a place to listen where you feel comfortable and safe. Remember when I ask you questions, or tell you to repeat something, you can speak out loud, or just think it quietly in your head.

Let’s start with a breathing exercise. Close your eye, or leave them open. It’s up to you. Take a deep breath in through your nose as you count to 3. 123. Now breathe out through your mouth 123. Once again, deep breath in 123. And out 123. Let your shoulders relax a little bit. And one last time breathe in 123. And out 123.

Now we’re going to move straight into affirmations. We’ve done lots of affirmations on past episodes of this show, so you know that these are short sentences that help you feel good about yourself. This time we will do even more affirmations than we usually do, and you will hear several different voices taking turns saying the affirmations. You will hear me, Mia, and Eso, who have all been guests on the show before. We will say each affirmation twice, so you can listen once, and then repeat it the second time. So take one more deep breath, and let’s begin.

I like me.

Mia: I am proud of me.

Eso: There is no one better to be than myself.

Noah: I am strong on the inside.

Mia: The world needs someone like me.

Eso: I am beautiful inside and out.

Noah: I am open and ready to learn.

Mia: When something is wrong, I can change it.

Eso: No matter how hard it is, I can do it.

Noah: Every day is a fresh start.

Eso: I have courage and confidence.

Mia: I speak up for what is right.

Noah: I can make a difference.

Eso: I am not alone in my feelings.

Mia: We are stronger when we work together.

Noah: I can listen learn and grow.

Eso: I have people who love and respect me.

Mia: I deserve to be loved.

Noah: I want to thank Eso and Mia for joining us to say affirmations. Now that we have said affirmations to help us feel good about ourselves, I want us to turn those good feelings outward and think about how we can make other people feel good too. To do this, we will say a few wishes. This is a lot like saying affirmations except that we’re saying things that we wish for others. Our friend Eso will lead these wishes. He’ll say each one twice so you can listen once and then repeat it. While we say these wishes, I want you to imagine someone who is different than you. It can be someone you know, or it can be someone who you don’t know very well. Take a moment to close your eyes and picture someone who is different than you. Now we will say these wishes to that person. Listen once, and then repeat it together the second time.

Eso: I wish for you to be happy.

I wish for you to be healthy.

I wish for you to be safe.

I wish for you to feel loved.

I wish for you to have all that you need.

Noah: Now as we wind down our time together, I am going to play you a song called I’m Glad That I am Me. This song is about loving all the things that make you you, but it is also about loving the things that make other people different than you. While you listen, you can continue to take slow deep breaths and think about how you can show love to others.

I’m glad that I am me

I’m glad that you are you

I’m glad that we both do the things

That we each like to do

I’m glad that I know you

I’m glad you know me too

We’re different but we teach each other

Things we never knew

What if you were me?

And what if I were you?

Would we still do the same things

That we’ve always liked to do?

I wonder…

But you’ll always be you

And I’ll always be me

We learn and grow and change our clothes

But stay the same beneath

I’m glad that I am me

I’m glad that you are you

I’m proud of how you’re growing

And I like your point of view

And I like you

I can’t wait to spend some time together again soon! Until next time, I like you, I’m proud of you, and I’m glad we are friends. Have a happy and peaceful day.
